EasyStreet Earns 2008 Green Power Leadership Award from Portland General Electric

Beaverton, Ore.—November 11, 2008—EasyStreet® Online Services Inc has been recognized by Portland General Electric (PGE) as the utility's 2008 Green Power Leader. Since May 2007, EasyStreet has used 50 percent PGE Clean WindSM power in its nearly 3,500-square-foot data center. Earlier this year, EasyStreet stepped up to 100 percent renewable power, making the company one of three Platinum-level PGE Clean Wind partners.

The award was presented by Peggy Fowler, CEO and president of PGE, at an Oct. 7 invitation-only event. "EasyStreet is leading the way in its commitment to clean energy," Fowler said. "Forward-looking businesses like EasyStreet are helping PGE develop more renewable power options for Oregon's energy future."

Data centers are energy-intensive facilities, today representing 1.5 percent of total U.S. electricity consumption—and that could double in the next five years. When EasyStreet made the commitment to buy 50 percent renewable power, it became the first data center in Oregon to offer a Renewable Power Option to its colocation customers. Customers requesting this option paid a low monthly premium based on their power configuration.

"EasyStreet's customers are really the ones who are honored by the Green Power Leadership Award this year," said EasyStreet President and CEO Rich Bader. "It is our customers' enthusiastic endorsement of our initial green power commitment and their support for EasyStreet's Renewable Power Option program that made stepping up to 100 percent green power possible. Our community isn't just talking about green IT practices—we're helping to lead the way."

John Beaston, EasyStreet co-founder and vice president of customer service, added, "We think sustainable business practices have a lot to do with EasyStreet services. Our data center is a major consumer of power, and PGE Clean Wind is an important way for us to lessen the impact."

EasyStreet approaches sustainability on many fronts. A "Green Team," which includes executives, managers and staff members from all departments, meets regularly to discuss and take action on sustainability issues. "We recently had an "e-cycle Day' at EasyStreet and contacted PABD Resources in Hillsboro to recycle, refurbish or reuse unwanted electronics from our data center as well as items brought in by our employees," team leader Lorraine Bessmer said. "They hauled away two truckloads of materials that might have otherwise ended up in a landfill. It was such a success that we plan to have another e-cycle Day soon and invite all of our customers to participate."

“Staying with EasyStreet is key to us being able to grow.”
