EasyStreet Hosts Bike Commute Workshop

To celebrate National Bike Month, EasyStreet hosted a Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) Commute Workshop at their offices. BTA’s Kristen Bott (shown above) covered these topics:

  • Safe and legal riding
  • What you need to know about lights and rain gear
  • Carrying stuff – including clothes, groceries and kids
  • What to do about your hair
  • Route planning and maps

Of course, pizza was served!

EasyStreet in the News for Bike-Friendly Incentives

This article in The Oregonian covers local companies who offer perks for pedaling. In the article, EasyStreet’s veteran biker, John Beaston, outlines many of the things the company does to encourage a bike- and health-friendly environment. This includes an innovative cash incentive program that encourages outdoor activities.  “Employees can make $1 a day when they or their families do one of four things: walk or bike to EasyStreet; bike or walk an errand normally using a car; walk or bike to school; engage in an outdoor aerobic activity for at least 15 minutes.”

Over the years, biking has become a necessary part of John’s well-being.  “I need to do something active every day,” he says, “If I go more than a couple days, I’ll get real grumpy.”

Thirteen EasyStreeters Bike to Work

Rather than in May, we have our Bike-to-Work Day when the weather is better.

Today, out of 34 employees, we had 13 bike to work! We hosted a custom-made omelet or blueberry pancake breakfast (made by one of the riders who got here at 5:30am for prep). Here’s the documentary photo!

Left-to-right: Brent Holder, Travis Ogdon, Susan Douglas-Fox, Kathy Zak (chef), Sarah Wetmore (first timer), Lorraine Bessmer, Rich Bader (CEO), Jeff Burlingame, John Beaston, Mikayla Dickinson (first timer), Steve Knipple, Jack Flug and Eric Bourassa.

Bicycle Transportation Alliance blogs about EasyStreet

They blogged so we’ll brag — the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) has recognized EasyStreet for becoming the first and only “official” Bike Friendly Business in Beaverton. (We recently earned a bronze award from the League of American Bicyclists.)

First EasyStreet Group Bike Ride

It’s time for the Carefree Commuter Challenge, so EasyStreet employees are making sure we take a few extra bike trips as we participate. EasyStreet’s Co-Founder, VP of Customer Services and dedicated cyclist, John Beaston, recently pulled together our first group bike ride. (Unfortunately, a few of our dedicated riders were out of the office!) You can see the 7.5-mile route we pedaled here. Another trip — this time a lunch excursion along the Fanno Creek Greenway at a little over 11 miles — is planned for next week.
