Oregon Health Network (OHN) Celebrates Network Operations Center at EasyStreet

OHN-NOC-1b

Imagine an OHN-member hospital in Wallowa having a video consultation with a doctor at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. Suddenly there is a network problem and the connection is lost. A Network Management System alerts the technicians at the OHN Network Operations Center (NOC), located at EasyStreet Online Services, and they work with the service providers on both ends of the connection to get the problem resolved as quickly as possible.

The state’s first broadband telehealth network has become a reality and this accomplishment was celebrated at EasyStreet on Friday, December 4. Nearly 75 stakeholders were in attendance and, as the saying goes, “a good time was had by all.”

OHN is a non-profit organization comprising healthcare, technology and telecommunications experts gathered together to create the first broadband telehealth network in Oregon. A membership-based organization, OHN strives to connect and serve all organizations and partner communities (providers, educators, government and business) who are critical to improving the quality, delivery and access of healthcare education for all Oregonians, regardless of location.

Attend Second Annual OneWebDay Celebration

PDX-OWD

  • Tuesday, September 22, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Pioneer Courthouse Square (Corner of SW 6th and Morrison)

On Tuesday, September 22, a coalition of Portland technology groups (including EasyStreet) will host a day of speakers, music and a screening of the popular UK documentary, Us Now, as part of OneWebDay, an international celebration of the Internet.

This event, which has been called “an Earth Day for the Internet” will include short speeches by City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, Rick Turoczy of the Silicon Florist Blog, Cayse Jama of the Center for Intercultural Organizing, Alan Alexander, Chair of the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission and Mary Botkin of AFSCME Council 75. Music will be provided by the Grammy-nominated Patrick Lamb Band.

Founded by Susan Crawford, who now advises President Obama on science, technology, and innovation policy, OneWebDay is a global event that is celebrated every September 22 since 2006. Much like Earth Day, which inspired it, OneWebDay provides an opportunity for communities to celebrate the power of Web for positive change, to take action to protect what is precious about it, and to educate the public and policy-makers on key social, economic and political Web issues.

This year’s theme is “One Web. For All.” It is all about digital inclusion, digital literacy and working to close the digital divide. OneWebDay organizers will call attention to efforts that work to ensure that anyone who wants it has access to the Internet and the skills they need to engage in our new communications environment. The fight for digital inclusion is now on the cutting edge in the long struggle for social and economic justice. Access to a fast, affordable and open Internet is essential for every child in school, every entrepreneur with a new idea and anyone who wants full access to our government and the democratic process.

Each year, cities around the world hold events to celebrate OneWebDay. This year, a group of Portland organizations — Portland Community Media, EasyStreet Online Services, Silicon Florist Blog, One Economy Corporation, Nonprofit Technology Network, Personal Telco, Hot Pepper Studio, Multnomah County Library and City of Portland — are hosting this free, public event so that all Portland area residents can learn about the important issues facing the World Wide Web.

Well Done, TechAmerica Oregon!

I must congratulate the TechAmerica staff on a well-run Oregon Technology Awards event last week. The program really moved along with short and snappy videos about each finalist organization and a two-minute limit imposed on the “Cool Product of the Year” pitches. (GadgetTrak® won the Cool Product title. I may have to try that particular cool product myself, having lost a Mac laptop to some sticky-fingered lowlives a few months ago…)

EasyStreet was proud to be one of three finalists in the “Technology Service Company of the Year” category, presented to “the Technology-Service company that has made the biggest positive impact to their customers and the region.” ACME Business Consulting LLC captured the top honors (congratulations, ACME!), but we were sincerely delighted to be on the list of finalists, along with Integra Telecom.

You can click here for a complete list of winners in all categories.

Here’s a photo of Rich Bader receiving our Technology Service finalist award:

Did you get stimulated at InnoTech?

Thought I’d post a few pictures about our booth at InnoTech. We featured our Stimulus Package for Entrepreneurs. Plus we wanted everyone to have fun and celebrate the spirit of innovation that is the basis for new business in Oregon.

There are a couple of nice photos on twitpic here and here.

Kent Lewis of Anvil Media Twittered about winning $17 in our cash cage. He looks happy and stimulated to me. Thanks, Kent.

What the heck is BarCampPortland?

Attention all geeks — you might want to attend BarCamp Portland III at CubeSpace on May 1 – 2.

EasyStreet celebrates 10 years of colocation services

Everybody loves a reason to celebrate so EasyStreet recently provided one for our colocation customers. Our first customer signed up for colocation in November 1998 so it gave us a reason to party! Many of our colocation customers joined us, including John Schmitt of OakTree Digital, who won our cool prize for the earliest colo customer to attend. (OakTree came on board in May of 1999.) Following is a picture of John receiving his award — The Internet Now in Handy Book Form. (We also gave him a nice bottle of Chardonnay from Holloran Vineyard Wines in West Linn. Bill Holloran, who owns the winery and is president of Content Management Associates, Inc., is also a long-time EasyStreet colocation customer.) Small world, huh?

John Schmitt from OakTree Digital became an EasyStreet colocation customer in May 1999.
